If you are planning a homeschooling field trip, you of course want it
to be a success. Plan out the details, and ensure that nothing goes awry!
Put some forethought into things such as what could go wrong, what
you might need (tickets, purse, etc.) and what you hope to get out of your
homeschooling field trip.
Homeschooling Field Trip: Syllabus
You will want to make up a syllabus (an outline) on the lesson involving
this field trip – with objectives, homework assignment, due date etc.
Also, if any other homeschool groups are going to be in attendance,
you'll want to have a copy of the syllabus for them.
Homeschooling Field Trip – Directions
Naturally you will want a clear set of directions for distribution to the
other mothers. And it is a good idea (especially if it's summer) to
check for detours, road construction so you can have an alternate
set of directions. Just a thought.
Once you've printed out a copy of the directions on your home
computer, place a copy in the car right away.
Homeschooling Field Trips: Snacks and Good Music are in Order
You can pack some snacks, and bag them up ahead of time in zip lock
bags. Place some nuts and trail mix, and maybe some apples into a
cooler a day or 2 ahead of time.
Then, the night before, you perhaps can make up something deleicious
as the main dish. Something like fried chicken, which you can serve
cold the next day. And maybe some potato salad, zucchini salad,
or a raisin salad.
As to the drinks, individual bottles of juice or water (milk e.g.) are the
best choice – that way, no spillage. I don't believe in giving teenagers
or kids those energy drinks (not too good for them).
Homeschooling Field Trip: The Camera
Every person going on the homeschooling field trip should probably
have a camera. This is for the homework assignments later. And
also for the cherished memories, as a family. Heck, the kids will
probably even enjoy taking funny pics in the car!
Homeschooling Field Trip: Vital Items
When I was a teenager, I liked to have a few journals to write in.
One for school-related stuff, and then a separate one for personal
thoughts and remembrances.
Of course, today's cell phone can do anything. So hey, why not let
each of your children bring along their cell phone for this purpose?
Or else their Nook or Kindle ereader.
And you (as the driver) should certainly make sure you pack
your little friend (the cell) – put it in your purse the nite before.
Last but not least, if you need your tickets or some special
directions to find your seats in the stadium or theater, etcetera
then pack those up!
